FACULTY POSITION
Assistant/Associate ProfessorThe College of Education and Educational Technology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Department of Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) to begin in fall 2008 (with summer 2008 employment possible). Rank and salary are competitive.
As one of fourteen institutions in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, and the only doctoral granting institution, IUP has a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-Intensive classification. Faculty receive substantive support through the Center for Teaching Excellence, Graduate School funding opportunities for research and grant development, the Applied Research Lab, and APSCUF—a faculty union.
Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) is devoted exclusively to the Masters level professional preparation of student affairs educators. This graduate program, begun in 1971, is now an independent department with four full-time faculty, enrolling cohorts of approximately 35 students annually in its two-year, 42-credit curriculum. The program provides daytime classes for full-time graduate students who serve in graduate assistantships at IUP and at cooperating institutions in western Pennsylvania. The SAHE department is well regarded in the College of Education & Educational Technology as well as throughout the institution. RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching Masters level courses in Student Affairs in Higher Education; advising students; supervising and advising research projects/theses; conducting, presenting, and publishing research in student affairs in higher education; serving on departmental and university-wide committees; and assisting in the overall coordination of the program. The department is seeking a faculty member who will contribute to scholarship in the student affairs field, excel in teaching, and provide service at the department, college, and university levels.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate in college student personnel, higher education, or a closely related discipline is required by time of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of student affairs work and contribute to the knowledge base in the field through an active research and publication/presentation program. The successful candidate must have a record of scholarly activity sufficient to meet graduate school teaching criteria and two years of teaching experience at the college level, preferably in student affairs administration. In addition, preference will be given to candidates who have been actively involved in student affairs professional organizations. We seek a well rounded faculty with diverse institutional, educational, research, and experiential backgrounds
For the Associate level, the requirements are a strong record of scholarly activity which includes a significant number of publications, including articles in refereed professional publications, experience in leadership positions in student affairs professional organizations, and at least five years of teaching at the college level, preferably in student affairs administration.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well during the interviewing process which may include a teaching demonstration. All applicants must be work eligible.
