The Department of Education in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) at the University of California, Los Angeles announces an opening for a tenure-track assistant professor in student affairs in higher education. We invite applications from candidates who will conduct research on and teach in student affairs, including but not limited
to:P leadership and management in student affairs;
P the evaluation of student services;
P student development and assessment of student outcomes;
P counseling or advising undergraduate and graduate students; and
P advancing a social justice mission in students affairs, including research on equity related to race/ethnicity, class, gender, and/or sexual orientation.
This faculty member will teach in our Masters of Education in Student Affairs program and in the Higher Education and Organizational Change (HEOC) Division. The UCLA higher education program is one of the top-ranked programs in the country with eight ladder-rank faculty, and several visiting and emeriti professors. Depending on research interests, the candidate may elect to become affiliated with the Higher Education Research Institute, which houses national data resources for research on faculty, students, and institutions. We welcome candidates from a range of methodological traditions and seek those who understand student affairs within a larger educational and developmental context. The Department is particularly interested in and values candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to improving access and the conditions in higher education for underrepresented students.
*QUALIFICATIONS*: A doctoral degree in higher education or related field; record of research and scholarly publications in higher education consonant with the appointment level; and interest in teaching and mentoring students at the graduate and undergraduate levels are required. The successful candidate must have the promise of a strong research record beyond that achieved to date and a willingness to generate extramural funding for research.
