The Department is committed to practitioner-relevant preparation of educational leaders as well as excellence in research training in its Ph.D. programs.

We seek faculty who are outstanding scholars, have significant potential for obtaining extramural funding, who have demonstrated a dedication to creating and enhancing partnerships with school districts and organizations appropriate to their fields, and who are committed to instructional excellence. The Department of Leadership, Foundations and Human Resource Education includes 14 faculty members and offers an array of programs leading to Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral (PhD and EdD) degrees in the areas of educational administration, workforce leadership, human resource education, and higher education.

The Department also has successful partnerships with the Kentucky Department of Education and with organizations having a presence in the Louisville area, including the U.S. Army, General Electric Corporation, the health care community, and state and local government.

The College is a member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate, (in collaboration with the University of Kentucky, home of the Kentucky Principals' Academy), a national network of 21 research universities seeking to redefine and to reenergize doctoral study in education as it applies to both K-12 and higher education. As part of the Carnegie Project, the College is in the process of developing a practitioner-oriented EdD, with innovative content, a variety of delivery formats, and meaningful capstone experiences. Support for the department is strong. For example, the college and department will be recruiting a distinguished scholar to fill an endowed chair in educational leadership, which will be established in 2008-2009.
