Position: UNT seeks an individual with research and publishing experience and who has interest and initial experience acquiring development and research grants to serve as assistant professor in the Program in Higher Education. This position contributes to the Program's commitment to excellence at the regional and national levels in research and the preparation of leaders in higher education. The individual has the option of working with the Director of the Center for Higher Education on grant and research activities. The individual will contribute to the educational, research, and professional development goals within the Program's academic plan to promote research on student development, community college issues, administration, and student-centered learning. The individual selected will serve a nine-month tenure track appointment beginning fall semester 2008. Summer teaching (2009-2010) is contingent on student demand and funding.The Program: The Program in Higher Education offers masters and doctoral degrees in higher education. The Don A. Buchholz Endowed Chair in Community College Education, the Bill J. Priest Center for Community College Education, and the Center for Higher Education are affiliated with the Program.
Salary: The salary is commensurate with education and academic experience for an assistant professor.
Qualifications: The candidate must hold a doctorate in Higher Education or a related field. Required qualifications include experience and evidence of:
- a research agenda on higher education in the form of peer-reviewed publications in scholarly outlets
- teaching and assessment of learning
- experience in securing development and research grants
- active service in professional organizations
- meet requirements for appointment to graduate faculty status II to serve on dissertation committees and advise doctoral students.
Experience in administration in higher education is of value.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include: teaching graduate courses, research and data analysis in the Program, securing grants, advising doctoral students, serving on doctoral committees, co-chairing dissertation committees, and service to the department, college, and university. Courses taught may be on-campus, off-campus, online, or by videoconferencing.
